Fredrika Runeberg's
Dinner
In early June, 1860, a banquet was held at the Runebergs, with Robert
Montgomery, Governor of Umeå, as the guest of honour. Also invited
were Runeberg's friends from Helsinki, J.V. Snellman and Zacharias Topelius.
Fredrika Runeberg herself was in charge of service and had three servant
girls helping her. This same historic menu consisting of asparagus and
morels, mousseline sauce, spinach pudding, veal cutlet, and ice cream
and oranges is served in our restaurant.
Fredrika Runeberg's
Dinner, 51 €/person. Prices inclusive of VAT
Sandels' Dinner
"Sandels is sitting at Partala having a meal without worry."
During the Swedish-Russian War, the truce between the Russian army and
the Finnish army led by General Sandels was supposed to end on 27 October
1808 at 1 pm, but fighting had already started at 12 noon Finnish time.
When fighting started, Sandels, who later led his Swedo-Finnish soldiers
to victory, was enjoying his lunch peacefully on the northwest bank of
the River Koljonvirta. That same lunch-salmon rosette, goose galantine,
fried veal, and crowberry parfait, described by Runeberg, is served in
an 18th-century loghouse, rich in atmosphere, located close to the medieval
Porvoo Cathedral. The famous restaurant Wanha Laamanni has been operating
in that building for more than 25 years.
Sandels' Dinner,
77 €/person. Prices inclusive of VAT.
